Here's my jobs latest deliveries. We just received 3-rigs from Smeal Fire apparatus. 1st up is a 2010 Spartan/Smeal 1500gpm/500gwt pumper which will be assigned to Engine-309. It's the 1st three Spartans we ever took delivery of, and 1st 1500gpm pumpers. Used with permission, Joe Pinto photo

The second one is a Rescue-pumper being assigned to Squad-11,which backs up us (Rescue-1) on the Special Operations. It's a 2010 Spartan/Smeal 1500/500 also.

The 3rd new piece is a 2010 Spartan/Smeal 100' RMA pre-piped, our 1st of that too. It will be assigned to Ladder-72. I'll have more pix to post soon.

Unfortunately with the City proposing demoting 2-Chiefs, 6-Captains, 24-Lieutenants, and laying off 42-Firefighters (cutting 2-companies) who knows what will happen.....

What good is the nice apparatus if there's no men to man it?

Why the switch to 1500? I assume they'll carry LDH.

R1SmokeEater,

Curious to know your take on how the previous HME/Smeal Aerials have held up there in Yonkers.

Thanks!

The HME/Smeals held up GREAT ! I personally like them very much, the stick is like a crane ! No movement when u climb them !! The only complaint from the men was the limited cab space, including height. We spec all rigs to run around 10'10", until this rig. The Firehouse doors needed to be heightened, but the Spartan cab should solve that problem. The jacking system, composed of two rear H-type, and 2-midship A-type works great on our hills.

M, L-72's current HME/Smeal is a 2002. We run a 10-yr replacement as you guys, but funding was there (at the time) for this piece. With it's delivery we will get rid of the 1995 Seagrave as a spare. We are also expecting 2-new pumpers for E-306 & E-308 from American LaFrance, which were ordered before these, but due to ALF's current mess, they are way delayed.

Currently E-309, Sq-11 (and E-307 & E-312) carry LDH. When moving the amount of water of the LDH was being discussed, the pump capacity was upped.

R1 while I'm asking questions here, any significance to the design change on the driver's side from the rest of the fleet of engines? i.e. full height compartments rather than suction and hose pack trays...

Actually, I didn't know the Chief changed the spec, till I saw it the other day..... Dunno yet. They're not in service just yet. I'll try to get some shots IF I remember my camera when I go into work.

Great shots! Glad to see your dept getting new rigs. Were the Spartans ordered before or after the ALF troubles? The good part is at least they are going to deliver those 2 engines (even if they are way overdue)
People complaining about spam in the spam mail box... Huh, what'll they think of next?
