Final inspection pics of our new piece. Will add more when truck is lettered.

2010 Pierce Contender Big Block

Based on contender specs built at appleton plant.

First Big Block contender for NC.

OK, I'm generally pretty Pierce-savvy, but I don't follow. This appears to be a Velocity cab (or an Impel since the facias appear very similar now), are you saying that this cab is now the Contender Big Block and small blocks will still be in the Saber-based Contender cab? Or this is a Contender-style body on a Velocity or Impel cab? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Huh' />

It IS a nice looking ride.

Taylor,

I think what you said is correct. I just looked at a picture of a velocity cab, and an impel cab. Underneath the driver side window it would normally have a small plaque with velocity or impel in it, and this engine does not. No other contender units have a marking under the window either.

nothing important was said!
Mechanical engineers build weapons, whereas civil engineers build targets.

When the man at the door said," Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms", I, naturally assumed it was a delivery!

Tim, thanks, I was really hoping you'd see this thread and chime in.

I'll post a few others that I got from NC a couple of weeks ago. The following aren't my best work, but "a" photo is better than "no" photo, right?

The Roanoke-Wildwood VFD in Henrico, NC (Northampton County) operates from 2 stations. This pumper runs from their substation near the banks of Lake Gaston.

Where did you find that old Green Valley truck Gary? I've heard people say they've seen it as far as Brevard, NC. Looks like I'm not the only one who's had trouble with people giving me attitudes for shooting relics lately! I got a 20 minute lecture & cussing for letting a buddy of mine shoot a truck I'd shot years ago, haha. Here's an in-service shot of the truck as "Engine 5202."

It was on NC215 north of Rosman, just shy of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Very sharp looking rig Chris! Is the roto-ray LED as well?

Yes the Roto Ray is LED.

They are building some of the new contender items such as the Contender Big Block and Contender 75' ladder at the appleton plant for now. The cab does have the Velocity emblems on it now. It does not however have any of the contender logo's just Pierce logo's. The only visual contender markings are the cabs on the suctions and the mudflaps. Everything else are the Pierce emblems. The style of the velocity cab is currently the only length available on the contender specs. On the Pierce webpage under stock trucks, there are a few of these on there that have the Detroit Desiel Engines.

This is one of those "what were they thinking" purchases. I've never got the full story, but this truck was purchased in 2007 but never placed into service and never had the intention of going into service. Flowes Store really didn't have a need for one because their district is mostly rural farmland with one and two-story houses. They only thing I can figure it was purchased as a show to lower their ISO rating. It sits today outside their station "unofficially" for sale. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/shrug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Shrug' />

I believe that Seagrave Ladder did a run in Lower Middlesex (AKA Deltaville Va.) Other than the pump panel, they look identical.

Lower Middlesex replaced the Seagrave with the unit shown below. It was bought used. Unsure from where.
