Great photos Andy, HFD is a neat department. Wish they still had Snorkel No.1 at Fire House 3 it was a cool looking machine. Stay Safe Brother, Rick

Were the current bays at Hannibal house 3 an addition to the original building? I ask because the hose tower is opposite from the engine room.

Parsons, Kansas Fire Department (Labette County)

Fire House 1

Built 1936

Engine 3, Ladder 1, Rescue, Task Force 4, and Fire Chief

(Pictured Engine 2, Engine 3, Ladder 1)

Parsons is a fully career fire department found in 1819. They have six firemen per shift and a Chief of Department for a total strength of nineteen. They suffered a reduction in force in the late 1980's and lost the five total, the seventh man on each shift, Asst Chief, and Fire Marshal. They respond from two fire houses and staff two engine's while cross-staffing the truck and rescue. They began returning to RED in 1999 after purchasing three units in Lime-Green starting in 1977.

Fire House One was constructed in 1936 as a Works Project Administration (WPA) building. This is a true classic and to prove the quality of construction it survived a direct F3 Tornado hit in 2000. All buildings on the city block were leveled except Fire House One.

The following unit respond from Fire House One Engine 3, Ladder 1, Rescue, Task Force 4, and Fire Chief. All living quarters and administration offices are located on the second floor. Firemen ascend to the apparatus room by two brass fire poles. A small watch desk nook is off the apparatus room. A brass Gamewell gong still alerts the firemen to an alarm.

NOTE: The white vertical rectangle at the back of the Pole Hole. This is a counter weight system that closes the plywood hole covers after you slide through.
