Lindsay your are correct. Engine 56 was a WLF and obvious the Truck was too. The Truck had a 65ft Grove Ladder I believe. When I rode with my friend on Batt 2 the Captain on Engine 56 opened the fire house in the early 1970's as a fireman. He told some wild story's of being out on the North Tollway before it was the Tollway at some gruesome wrecks. He said 56 was in the sticks back then and the second due Engine's were normally far behind. He said it helped having the Truck with them. The have all the Dallas History books at 56 on the shelf. I would dig through them while riding along.



I found it funny that all ranks bellow Batt Chief in DFD wore Black Carins 880 traditional helmets with plex-a-glass screen printed fronts in the 1970-1980's. Then in the 1980's when Chief Dodd was running DFD they went to the ugly 990 salad bowl fire helmets and put everyone rank specific colors. Sad very sad, at least they wear the Carins traditional 1000's now. I love my N5A New Yorker and my old 880 no bowl for me <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fireman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

Side Note: Chief Dodd and the early-mid 1980's ALF Century's saved Dallas from the horrific Lime-Green. The ALF Century's were the first factory delivered white over red engines since Dallas went Lime-Green in the 1970s'. Dallas only purchased lime-green for a short while unlike Kansas City where we had to endure it for fifteen years.
