I just happened to be thumbing thru Chuck Madderdom's LAFD apparatus book this morning.....any one know why the 2 (different years) 85' Snorkels were painted chrome yellow ? (not from LAX)
Also noticed the pumpers were coming in as manual transmissions up until 1995!

I remember reading somewhere that some of the special service apparatus of the 60s-70s sported the chrome yellow paint. The 1968 Crown Heavy Utility 6 was painted this color as well. Also note that 2 1962 Crowns,P80 and P81 were delivered in chrome yellow livery.
The 1996 Seagrave's were the last to come in with manual transmissions. After that, the final 1996 Seagrave (shop # 60528) was one of the first to have an automatic transmission (and Detroit Diesel)
