Several of the larger cities are on 8-10 year replacement programs for engines and 10-15 years on aerials.
Quite a few of the suburbs have quite large tax bases and also use bond programs to purchase apparatus, build brand new stations or replace existing, antiquated stations with modern, eco-friendly stations.
When some of these apparatus of the vintage such former Engine 6 in Richardson are replaced as front line units, the former front line unit goes into reserve status where it may stay for another 8-10 years.
Currently, the oldest front line apparatus in Richardson is a 2006 E\-One quint at Station 4. I suspect that it will be the next to be replaced.
Hope this helps
