Quote:But Sutphen is a ladder tower because the ladder is NFPA rated as such unlike a Scope which is classified as an escape ladder.

I think that is based on which option you get, you can get the Sutphen Platforms as either a ladder tower or tower ladder. If you get a Ladder-tower from sutphen it will look similar to this http://www.firenews.org/vt/c/colchester/ColchesterCenterVTTwr41.jpg you can see the full sized railings on top of the box boom to achieve the NFPA rating. But if you get a Tower-Ladder from sutphen it will look like http://www.firenews.org/ct/h/hartford/Ha...3new08.jpg an escape ladder mounted to the top of the box booms and no hand railings. In order to achieve the NFPA rating for more than an escape ladder you need hand rails (I believe at) minimum 12". I believe the option for tower-ladder or ladder-tower from sutphen is available either way on all of their platforms. The original tele-squirts (snorkel product) had a short hand rail and if you remember they became much taller in the early 90's (or you could get fold down railings) in order to meet the NFPA change for the minimum hand railing height.
