They worked hard to get the lowest possible hose bed while maintaining a rear compartment from Pierce. The goal was for a basic urban style Engine. Since they have been in service for a while now. Most of the crews would like to see an even lower hose bed on the next Engine's, they feel this is still too tall.
This is a comparative shot of the Olathe PUC hose bed above vs. the Leawood PUC Standard hose bed below. Quite a difference.
