The significance of this photo is that Wichita Fire Department has accepted a contract from Pierce Manufacturing to begin the next fleet replacement. It is hard to believe this machine is almost ten years old. This Pierce represents the first order from Pierce in 2003. The order consisted of One Engine 1, One Rescue 4, Two Tower Ladders 1 & 2, Two Quints 4 & 19. All future orders after the first were delivered with Federal Q2b Sirens. This also continued the department change from Lime Green to RED and also marked the return of solid RED from White over RED.



I found out this weekend the current order is planned for nine pumpers and one truck. This plan will phase out the current 75ft Quints in the fleet and reopen one more Truck Company as Truck 5. Their is also discussion of opening Truck 6 later in the year. Prior to the 1980's Wichita operated eight Truck Companies. It will be nice to see the pure simplicity of a Pumper and Truck fleet again. I am sure Andy will have more to add as information becomes available.
