Quote:BackApproximately 50 Continental Compac apparatus were built between 1980 and 1983, when Continental went out of business. There was a very good article about them in the July-August, 2000 issue of Fire Apparatus Journal. The Compac was built on a modified General Motors chassis and, as stated above, the cabs were purchased from International. Newark purchased five Compac pumpers and Yonkers, NY had the largest fleet with six pumpers and a tractor to pull an older ALF trailer.
in the 80's, Newark, New Jersey purchased a bunch of these Continental "Compacts" as they were in a financial crunch and they needed apparatus replaced. Engine 7 is a 1981 model 1000/500. The cab is a IHC 1600 Series with a fiberglass "nose in place of the hood and fenders. I was wondering if these units were placed in other towns or were they just built for Newark. This is truly a Custom Commercial Canopy Cab!
