This incident is from my hometown. The airport is in direct flight path of these homes. While the runways are in New Haven, the rest of the airport property is in East Haven. Any response to an aircraft incident gets responses from both towns. A sad day for all the responders indeed....
In June 1971, an Allegany airlines plane crashed at the oppisite end of the airport in East Haven along the shoreline on a pea-soup foggy morning, falling far short of the runway killing 28 souls aboard and seeting 3 cottages ablaze. It remains Connecticuts worst aviation diaster.
