Seagrave employees were in fact sent home for a day, recently. It was noted that a contingency of "strangers" or "suits" then came in and took notes, photos, inventory, ect. It was reportedly to be what happens "when someone is being sold or about to be bought." There was a subsequent rumor that Smeal was involved. Who knows. But, yes, there was in fact an unusual event.
I will say that I think Seagrave has settled into a low volume/high quality builder role. Best I can figure, they built around 30 non-FDNY rigs last year and they're on that pace this year. Orders seem to be picking up...albeit the usual areas - Louisville, NY, NJ, PA. But, deliveries are now on time, quality is back to Seagrave standards, and customers are happy.
