Jamie Middlebrook, Assistant Chief of the New Carlisle Fire Department was killed in the line of duty last night while battling a 2-alarm fire at 5887 N 800 East in neighboring Laporte County. Another firefighter was injured and transported to Michigan City with unknown type injuries.
Chief Middlebrook was making an interior attack of a 1 story polebarn when the roof suddenly collapsed on him. His body was found after he was reported missing during a PAR. He leaves behind his wife and his father, a 40-year veteran and former chief of the NCFD
