Sugar Grove, West Virginia Naval Base FD
#42
Really nice station and equipment, hope things work out for the firefighters. I went through a couple of base closures and it is never fun.

Quote:More questions....are the firefighters Navy, or federal employees working on a navy base?

Great shots, thanks for posting.
The firefighters at most military bases within the US are civilians. The USAF uses a mix of military and civilian, and the USMC uses Marines for crash (they deploy with their air wing) and civilians for everything else. Army and Navy are almost exclusively civilians. There are a couple of exceptions but that is the most common situation.

National Guard does their own thing and is far less uniform in policy than the DoD.

Overseas is a completely different story with all kinds of combinations of local resident employees, US civilians, contractors and military personnel.
