At that time, Station 1 was a two company house.
Since that time, there is no engine at Station 1, and they run a quint out of there.
This appears to be one reason for the conversion. I do not know of any others.

I was more curious as to the conversion of an 8 year old ladder (by the dates given) rather than purchasing a new quint and moving this unit to another station where a quint wasn't necessary, into reserve status or selling it to offset the cost of a new unit.
I would imagine that the conversion wasn't exactly "cheap", but I guess they thought it was the more cost effective route.
