1974 Ford C / Crown (built by Pierce) 55ft Squirt
Attack Hose Tender 1, San Francisco Fire Department
In the 1970s San Francisco still had single role water towers in service. Two 1927 Mack AC / Gorter 35ft, an 1898 tractor drawn Gorter 65ft, and a 1902 tractor drawn Gorter 75ft. The 65ft was retired in 1970, the Macks in 1971, and the 75ft in 1975.
San Francisco bought three of these "attack hose tenders" in 1974. Simply based on the timing and design of the apparatus I assume they were purchased to fill the role of the retired water towers. This unit was still in service as a special call unstaffed piece of equipment in 2006, I'm not sure of its current status.
