On Thursday March 22, 2018 3 members of the fire service were killed in the line of duty in 2 separate incidents.
York City (PA): Firefighters Ivan Flanscha (50) a 20yr veteran & Zachary Anthony (29) a 7yr vet were killed while operating at a fire in a former piano factory in the process of being converted to apartments when a large portion of the building collapsed.
FDNY: Firefighter Michael R. Davidson (37) was a 15yr veteran of the department, assigned to Engine Company 69 in Harlem. His father is a retired member who also served in that house & his brother is currently assigned to Engine Company 88 in the Bronx. He was killed while operating at a 5 Alarm fire at 773 St. Nicholas Ave in Harlem. He was the nozzleman on 69, operating in the basement when he became separated from his company as they were forced to evacuate due to rapidly deteriorating conditions. A Mayday was transmitted & he was removed from the building and rushed to Harlem Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He leaves behind a wife & 4 children.
