Although it has not yet been confirmed, this old rig may have an unusual story to it's origin. It is quite possible that this is another of the handful of fire apparatus built at the shops of the Southern Railroad, in Spencer, NC. I have previously photographed two confirmed examples, a 1952 International from the Franklin Township FD and a 1954 Ford that still remains with the Faith FD, both in Rowan County. There are no markings from any builder anywhere on it and the bodywork does not reflect the style of any mainstream builder. There are characteristics common with the other two confirmed "Spencer Shops" rigs.
