Fairfax City, VA operated this 1974 Oshkosh/American/Grove 85' tower as Tower # 3. Mattson Collection
Hey Scott,
Get a load of what happened to this piece. You would not reconize it today:
1974 Duplex/American Fire Apparatus/Grove, canopy cab, 85 ft steel rear-mount tandem axle ladder-tower. This was purchased used by the Kimberton Fire Company (Chester County, PA) from the Fairfax City Fire Department in VA were it ran as Tower-3 in 1988. It was first sent to Pierce to have a 4-door Arrow cab installed and have some bodywork done in 1989. It was then sent to LTI to have the ladder worked on. It went into service January of 1991. It went out of service on 5/8/92 when it ran into a telephone pole at Valley Forge's housing. Damage was extensive to the ladder and the bucket had to be replaced and the turntable rebuilt. It was returned to service on 9/3/92. It was sent out for service in 8/98 because one of the fly’s was found to be twisted. It has a 12 KW generator. It was sold to Parkesburg (Chester County, PA) in 11/02 for $69,000. Placed into service by them on 4/7/03. Still in service at Parkesburg - in rough shape.
