The only reason AFD ships trucks off to Siddons is for warranty repair. All major repairs are generally done at the Austin FD shops on Hargrave St. Pierce has a stronghold on the Austin market right now, but as Austin grows, there are other manufacturers who are begining to take notice. There have been some issues with Pierce on this latest batch of deliveries. I wouldn't be suprised to see E\-One or Crimson try to take a bite at the 5 budgeted pieces for next year.
Also, the Quantums Austin gets are really "stripped down" on the interior in order to meet the price point required to get the bid, and to meet spec. Austin FD prefers the Quantums because of the roomy cab and easy entrance/exit via the hydraulic steps (there are some more reasons). At this time, none of the major manufacturers can really match that.
