Two new 100ft Pierce Veloicty Tower Ladders 1500/300
Truck 8 est 1908 #21581-01 housed with Pumper 41
Truck 13 est 1960 #21581-02 housed with Pumper 39
The truck captains all asked for a Tillered fleet but Tower Ladders is what you get. KCFD has very agressive truck work and the truck companys will not use the pumps or hose this is merely so the will meet NFPA 1710 standard. The truck companys see the pump and hose space as a waste were good compartments could go. Just passing along the truck companys views. Truck 8 will loose their 100ft Tiller and Truck 13 will loose their 100ft Sutphen Tower.
I read they were getting these, just wish they had them 2 weeks ago when I was in town. Very nice looking trucks, does KCFD have posession of them yet?

Nope they they should soon Conrad Fire was doing some work on them before delivery. They also have a new air wagon on order.
NFPA 1710 is a staffing and response time standard, what does that have to do with the design spec's for these new rigs ?????? Nice pics thanks for posting !!!!

Here are some shots I took of those tiller units a couple of years back. Truck 8, 10 and the reserve truck (previously truck 2 are all 1999 E\-One 100' TDAs with a 1250GPM pump..

Yes I agree. The Fire Chief states by haveing pumps on the Trucks he can have a pumping unit at the fire scene within the 3 or 4 min 1710 requires. KC is very spread out and only the downtown and mid-town companies are close together. So the tillers will stay in Mid Town and the rest of the city gets 95ft or 100ft Tower Ladders with pumps. The trucks never needed pumps before and rarely dont have a pumper with them, but it will keep the city from adding Engines to make up the time laps if the first due Engine is out on another alarm. He believes the Trucks will pump as a last resort. However some of the Trucks drive around dry and keep very minuimal hose on board. KCFD Truck Captains are very firm in the belief they are Trucks and they do fantastic truck work. The Captian and Fireman go search on every fire and the Driver and Tillerman/or Fireman go to the roof on every fire. PPV is unheard of in the KCFD which is music to my ears, love my K-Saw with 12 tooth blade. I much prefer a dry 100ft stick tillered or straight not a fan of Towers. They a have a place but not the whole fleet. Disclamer Just my thoughts and views right wrong or indiffernt. Oh also they feel with a pump they have higher resale, which is true. But you should not purchase based on resale, you should purchase what fits your need.

Thanks for the insight Bro.....It's too bad that you guy's are having quints forced on you under the pretense of 1710, quints are a one size fits all plan to save money dreamed up by those who really do not understand what we do, JMO....You too be safe
It appears that the mirrors are very close to the tower bucket. It will be interesting to see if this will create problems in the future as thes trucks get older and the buckets dont stay level. It looks to me that they will drift down into the mirrors.
