Here is a run down on new rigs if interested.

2005 - HME/Toynes arrived

2006 - 1 Seagrave Ladder

2007 - 2 Seagrave Ladders, 1 Pierce Quint, and 3 KME Engines

2008 - 3 Pierce Ladders, 1 Pierce Quint, 3 KME Engines

2009 - 4 Pierce Ladders, 1 Pierce Quint, 2 KME Engines, 1 IHC/KME MAC

Also heard, that KME is about to go out the door. We will see, I'm hoping the city starts buying Pierce engines.[/quote]

They had good luck with the 86's and 92's. Looks as if this will retire the old Pierce aerials. The Ferraras will be reserve. Remember. KME..... Keeping Mechanics Employed!!!! They need to look at the specs of Wagon 3 from Harrisburg. Would not be a bad idea.

Pat or anyone,

Do you know if the two 1991 Pierce pumpers at E37 & E38 will go into reserve or replace any older engines that is still running first line?

I still have E19 & E35 still running with 1986 Pierce Dashes. I would think these if not already, be replaced with re-assigned pieces.

Also, what happened to the 1997 Spartan/3-D that E3 had which was replaced in 2008 by one of the KME pumpers?

Thanks in advance

Jeff

Most likely reserve. The slower houses still run the 86 pierces and for the most part they are in ok shape. I know E 15 was falling apart and has seen better days, not sure about 37 and 38 but for whatever reason those were in rougher shape to be replaced. There are still a few of the 86s floating around and as long as they arnt rusted out or have major problems they will be kept front line.

Jeff,

The 1986, and 1991 Pierce's are all in bad shape. Engine 19 has been running a 1991 Pierce for the past 5 years. I photographed it in 2005, it was in such bad shape that the body was rusted to the point everything looked as if it would fall off. In 2007 I stopped in again, this time they had another 1991, but a different one from the first time. I haven't had a chance to confirm it yet, but I believe that Engine 35 got X-Engine 3's 1997 Spartan/3D. That would have replaced the last 1986 Pierce in service. There are still some 1986 engines floating around in reserve status, as well as some of the 1991's, but if the rigs are in bad shape the department is scrapping them. A couple of the quints have also been scrapped already. I haven't heard much as far as how many more engines, and aerials the city plans to purchase, but if I had to guess at least 6 more engines, 1 ladder, and possibly replacement of the foam unit. There are still 2 (1993 ALF Patriots), 2 (1991 Pierce), and 2 (1997 Spartan/3D) that need replaced in engines. The last remaining HME/Ferrara at Truck 30 would be the ladder.

I am looking for a picture of a rig I once rode that was sold used to Pittsburg. It is an '86 E\-One 110 rear mount.

Ex Fairfax County, VA. T11. I am looking for it with Pittsburg lettering. I don't have any shop information on it except it was FxCo vehicle 7176. I am pretty sure it was sold to PFD as I have seen on scene pictures of it. Any help would be appriciated.

Anyone got an assignment history of the PBF rigs...who had what assigned, where they were re-assigned, etc. In particular the truck company rigs.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Joe,

Check out my website. Both of the X-Fairfax Ladders should be on there.

Larry,

Jeff Mogush had a pretty good run down on the roster up until a certain point. The only person I know of that would have had that set up would have been John Schmidt, who passed away a year or two ago. Pittsburgh has done so much rearranging in the past 20 years that I have no idea how to even begin trying to figure out what is where, and where it originally served. The newer stuff 1997 to present hasn't been very difficult, because everything has been purchased in small amounts. The 1986, 87, 91 Pierce engines, and aerials have been reassigned numerous times with station closures.

Jeff,

I wish I could help you more with your info, but I can't. The city is getting rid of rigs as fast as they are putting them in service. The goal for ladders was to put the HME/Ferrara's into reserve, and get rid of everything else including the E\-One aerials from Fairfax, VA. I saw A-32 the other day, which would have been X-T32. There should be an A-8, and A-24 showing up shortly. I'm not sure what the plan is for engines at this time. I know the goal was to enclose every cab in the department. I have seen a lot of the 91's at the shops though ready to be disposed of. Engine 18's quint was disposed of. I believe 23, and 27's will be the reserves. Next time I'm in the City, which will be after G-20 I'll stop in at the academy, and the shops and talk to the guys I know. I'm sure they can fill in a few more of the blanks. The City of Pittsburgh plans on having the 2 new engines, 1 new quint, and 4 ladders in service by G-20.

Guys,

Quick question, does the Polish Hill section have a specific truck/engine assigned or is there a special company patch for that section of the city? As a practicing Polock (heehee) and a visitor to that section of the city (while visiting freinds in Irwin) I was curious what might be out there.

Tried in vain to get one of the "no parking polish hill" signs but was told that is taboo to do in the City.

Thanks!

crashresq21,

Unfortunately not. Polish Hill would be covered By Engine 3 in the Strip District, and Engine/Truck 6 in Lawrenceville. Only a few stations in the City have their own station decals. It actually wasn't allowed for the longest time. Engine/Truck 6, and Quint 23 are the only two I can think of off hand with their own decals. Hope this helps.
