I like this shot because of the huge vacant in the background..the fire was not in this building..a smaller one down the street

The rest of the day was absolutely dead...we were at the drug store to

get some provisions when were heard Highland park go to a porch fire.

The officer questioned the dispatch saying there were no buildings left

at the given intersection. We responded anyway.".just in case". We

arrived before they had gotten water to the tower. A few anxious moments

were heard on the radio..something to the effect of get some water on

the handlines or we will burn up the rig! As we have often said, these

guys have almost no manpower, and 2 of the 3 rigs are in really bad

shape. They had to stretch several hundred feet of LDH to get a working

hydrant. It sounds like both of these dwellings were pretty much rolling

when they arrived. The radiant heat was such that you could hardly get

near these things. You cant tell from the photos but these were big 2

1/2 story frames..the last ones remaining on the block...

trying to keep the radiant heat off the basket...I believe the ladder is condemned and they just use it as an elevated master stream device
