Fire Museum Cherry St. (Cross streets of 10th/11th)
Thanks you your photos are great keep posting. IMPORTANT: This building opened in 1910 as the Kansas City Fire Insurance Patrol until 1954 when the city took over the station and moved FH10 Engine 10, Truck 3 into this building. KCFD did however always provide the manpower for the Insurance Patrol. It was decommisoned in 1979 when the current 10's opened at 9th and The Paso. From 1979 until 1990 it was the city garage sale barn. Then in 1990 we starting using it as the Fire Mesuem and recently moved into Union Station. This building is being torn down to make way for a park. The current City Adminstratior does not want a Fire Mesuem in his park nor does he really like the fire department.

KCFD Station 10, 1505 E 9th Pumper 10 Truck 3 Command Center
This command center was purchsed with Federal USAIS money so it can respond metro wide and is the second-out command center for KCFD. Command 1 the EVI at FH47/Fire Acadmey is the primary command center. FH10 is also where the Deputy Car 101 is based and from 1979-1997 some what refered as the Central Fire House. It used to house Pumper 10, Squad 10, Car 101, Truck 3, Air1, Command 1 and while 8's was being rehabed in 1993 Pumper 8 and Car 102.

Ex: FH11 Pumper 11 Car 102 BC's in KCFD are called Cars 102-108 are shift BC's, 101 is the Shift Deputy Chief. 109 Aiport BC 08-1700 M-F, 110 Haz-Mat BC 08-1700 M-F
Engine 11 in the KCFD was the segrated engine company. This was an all African American Fire House into the late 1960's it was first due to the 18th and Vine area of the famous KC Jazz area. Engine 11 became known as Pumper in 1967 as did all of the Engine's. In 1980 it moved to 32nd and Indiana at the newly reloacted Fire House 18 home of Pumper 18, Truck 5, Pumper 11. 18 had been a stand alone engine as with 11 and Truck 5 was stationed with Pumper 12 and Car 104. This was all part of the now failed fire improvment plan. In 1982 Pumper 18, 11 recieved new white over lime green. American LaFrance Century Series and order of six or seven. In 1990 Pumer 11 was one of the lucky companies to recieve a red repaint in the new white over red paint and ended the white over lime green era 1975-1990. In 1996 as a cost saving mesure all four double engine houses 7,17,18,23 were changed Pumpers 11,12, 31 became Rescues 11,12,31 and Pumper 2 was a year later disbaned and reopend as Pumper 3 at 111 and North Oak. Sad because Pumper 2 was the oldest inservice Engine Company, it was opened when the KCFD was estiblished as Dr. Lykins Steam Engine Co. 2. Again three years ago Rescue 11 was disbanded with Rescue 7, 12, 16. So that is the scoop. Stay Safe, Rick

Wichita, Kansas Fire Department Retired Fire House 6. This is now the Kansas State Fire Musuem and by the govner is the Offical Fire Museum of Kansas. It sits next door to the current WFD No. 2 that opened in 1983.
They also have a Memorial that is decticated to all of the Fallen Firefighters in Kansas. It is shown in the photos. This Musuem should be a stop on your list if traveling through Kansas.
