I believe the next multi-piece order will be with E\-One (or at least that is what I have heard). This does not include of course the Pierce Quantum Rescue going to Res1cue.

I dont have a definative answer on when the new rescue 1 will be in, but if I was to guess, Id say sometime this fall. The order was placed sometime around the middle of February to early March. Id say no more than 10 months for the build so you do the math. Its definately before the end of the year though.
They also have an engine on order but suprisingly, I havent heard with whom. Anyone in the know? It was origonally a part of the rescue order, but the new commish, after cancelling the whole order, ok'd Pierce to build the rescue but cancelled the pump from the order. They say its because the new guy didnt like the specs and wanted to rewrite them. Pierce could have still ended up with it but I dont really know for sure. I have been told pretty definatively though that E\-One will indeed get all future aerial orders until this current regime ends. The guys prefer them to the Pierces and have since before the Pierces were even delivered. The plan going around is up to 4 ladder trucks with one going to the current TL17. Their Pierce tower, which might I add is WAY to big for their first alarm district, will be reassigned to TL3. The new boss isnt as gun-ho with the tower ladder comcept as the guy he replaced. Boston isnt a place to practice an FDNY style tower concept. The streets are to narrow for the monster towers these days. TL17 usually has to stay out on the main road...even when first due, rendering the aerial useless. Not to say that towers have no use in Boston because they due. Just not the way the former commissioner thought. Thats about all I know at this point.
From a very reliable source:
-Rescue 1 contract awarded to Pierce, delivery in 6mos. -One new pumper to be ordered after field specs are drawn up, contract awarded to E\-One, delivery in 6mos. -6 new Tahoes to be delivered in September. -Leary Foundation has donated a 27' Boston Whaler, dedication in August, will be named the "Norman Knight". -New 90' fireboat specs have been completed, funding from USAI, Homeland Security & City Funds. -Engines 9, 10 & 17 are scheduled for slab replacement. -Moon Island Burn Building went out for bid in 10/05, construction begins in '07 budget, completed in Fall of 2007. -A grant for leather boots for all firefighters is awaiting approval. -$125K available to refurbish Tower Ladder 3. Options include transferring TL17's Pierce Mid-Mount to TL3. More discussions to be held. |
