They wouldn't pull the tanker out, but I did want to take a pic of the back of it... I thought everyone would enjoy the mural painted on the back of the tank.

How lucky for them. BTW, one of the Demarest members called me about a year ago because my FD had bought a circa 1960 GMC / Black Body light rescue in the mid 1980's hoping they might get it back. But, when we stopped using it our borough put it up for auction and it was sold to a local plumber (who happens to be a member with us) so he did a conversion.

New Jersey does have a law on the books carrying penalties for "failure to report a fire." When a strip mall burned to the ground ten years ago in Pompton Lakes, it was found that workers in an Acme supermarket were investigating a smoke condition for a long time before calling it in which gave enough time for the fire to gain momentum and then quickly spread throughout the 1950's wood truss construction building. The fire chief of Pompton Lakes decided to charge those people with "failure to report a fire" but then the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office backed down and would not support such a thing. As a result the chief was the defendant in a civil suit and lost the case with a hefty judgement against him. Although the borough finally took care of some of the financial obligation, the word has spread among fire officials what might happen to them.

What was the basis for the civil suit?
