I think Independent originally ran this rig as a Utility and later as a Special Unit. It was basically a catch all. It was placed in service by the volunteers after the city consolidated all the downtown stations at the Taylor Ave station. When there were volunteers around to staff it, they would run this on medical calls, all structural calls if there were no volunteers to drive the engine, or any other call/detail that it was needed at to provide additional staffing. It had no pump or tank, but was equipped with a small generator and floodlights as well as some other minor equipment. There were some minor rescue tools, but no Hurst or other similar extrication tools, at least initially when it was placed in service. They may have been added later.

The chassis is a 43-44 Military Chevrolet Model G 706 4x4 and is equpped with a Darley Model F-300 300 gpm pump. The cab/chassis was probably once a Army Class 325 fire truck with body work by Howe as the hose reels appear to be the type manufactured by them. The original Class 325 body was probably replaced postwar by the pictured one.
The Pierce hasn't been ordered yet but the specs are done. The one they baught as a trainer (ex-hollywood, md, annapolis, md, etc, etc) should either be at the ridge road shop or the academy. Pictures courtesy of HC DFRS employee web page.

Didn't Annapolis just buy this TDA? Why did they sell it?
