On August 05, 2010, the following changes will happen:

Engine #11 in service @ Station #23 until Station #11 is ready for occupancy.

Truck #11 in service @ Station #4 (see above)

Engine #36 decommissioned and Fulton County Engine #23 contracted for their territory.

Squad #4 back in service as a stand alone unit. (not sure where they will be quartered)

Unknown when Mini-Pumper #11 and Mini-Pumper #23 will go in service.

There will be nearly 100 re-assignments due to promotions and bid assignments.

New AFD Stn # 11 was paid for by private funds from the Atlantic Station property. Also paid for an engine, ladder & 2 parking deck rigs.

So do 11,13,18 have fire poles? What part of the living quarters are on the second floor?

Thanks in advance,

Ladder 11 at Station 4. Is Station 4 the quarters of 6 Engine at Edgewood(?) and the Connector?

Is Atlanta reinvesting in the Fire Department by putting units back in service? Sounds like the overall gain of 1 hose company, 1 hook and ladder 1 heavy rescue. Or maybe just the truck and squad, with the engine behind the deal with 36 Engine. Is E-23 in service on Howell Mill Rd?

The Atlantic Station complex seems to have been decent for the city at the AFD.

Are Station 13 and 18 at or very close to the location of the exisiting stations? I believe new 13 is catty corner to the old one and 18 is on the site of teh old station. Where is E-18 runnig from if the station is in the same location? Are the areas where 13 and 18 respond being re-generticfied (you know being re habilitated for yuppies)? Cause didn't Rubin live over there in East Atlanta? Enough history for now

Thanks <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smash' />

Any idea what the "re-organized" Squad Co. staffing going to be? If I recall correctly they formerly rode with 6 personnel.

Is Truck Co. 11 running out of 4's a temp thing until Station #11 opens?

And whats the story with disbanding Engine Co. 36 and contracting coverage to Fulton County Fire? Is this currently a double house with both departments' companies running out the same house?

Thanks in advance and glad to see some positive things for the AFD.

Here is Shoe's comment from post #726 above

And too answer a few other ???'s

Maxim new station 18 was built on the old station 18 site, Eng. 18 moved to a temp location a short distance down the road during construction and is now back in there house.

Rick not sure if the new stations have firepoles, however I bet they do...

Yes Sta. 4 is at 75/85 & Edgewood Ave... The home to Eng. Co. 6 and former home to Squad 4....

The Squad ran with 8 and min. of 6 when inservice prior to be placed OOS, hopefully will come back with the same staffing...

Larry aka Ladder 68 hopefully Shoe can comment more on the staffing and Eng.36 closure, I do know that Fulton Sta.23 is a very short distance from 36's shack

Some more info from Shoe:

Air #7 is at #1

Squad #4 is currently cross-manned with Engine #8

Engine #36 is being shut down and Engine #9 is being upgraded to ALS.

GSAR 6 is still at #21 and is cross-manned with Co. #21. They also have AirBag #21 and Boat #21.

Update as of 8/15/2010:

Squad #4 is still cross-manned w/ Engine #8

Engine #36 is still in service as BLS out of Station #9.

Station #36 (the trailer on Kimberly Road remains closed due to mold issues and will not re-open)

Engine #9 is ALS

New 11, 13, and 18 have poles.

Engine #11 is running out of #23 with a crew of 6

Mini-Pumper #11 is running out of #23 with a crew of 2 (although not in the CAD)

Engine #23 is and will remain in service (yes, it's a crowded house right now)

Tower #11 and Mini-Pumper #23 are still being stored at #18

Station #11 should open this week and all #11's equipment will move to #11.

Unknown what the plans are for Mini-pumper #23 it was removed from #23 and no-one is talking???

Dispatch is having a VERY hard time trying to figure out the territories!!!

I get really confused with Atlanta company history and assignments...

This is what I thought occured:

The "1st" E11 was disbanded to re-organize the "2nd" E15. "2nd" E11 re-organized (unknown from what personnel) and then disbanded again in '09.

The "1st" E15 was disbanded to form E23. "2nd" E15 was then re-organized using the personnel from E11.

The "1st" E23 was disbanded around '94. The "2nd" E23 was formed using the personnel from the "1st" E15.

I know thats as confusing as ever but any clarification and corrections would be very appreciated.

That's understandable, I get confused too. The old Station 11 on North Ave. was closed years ago due to structural issues. At that time, Engine 23 was not in service and Station 23 wasn't open. As I recall, the crew from Engine 11 became Engine 23 at Station 23. Ladder 11 was moved to Station 15 and became Ladder 15. There hasn't been an Engine or Ladder 11 since then, until now.

Most of AFD's assignments make sense, but not all. Squad 4 is currently running from Station 8. It used to be called Squad 5 and ran from Station 1, then was moved to Station 4, then disbanded. There is no Engine or Ladder 4. Station 6 is the museum and Engine 6 runs from Station 4. Last I knew, the air truck was called Air 7, but runs from Station 1 since Station 7 is closed.

The airport units are even worse. They used to have "Yellow" numbers, but now the Engines use the Station numbers they are assigned to, but the Ladders, 41 and 43, run from Stations 24 and 40. The crash rigs are called ARFF 1 through ARFF 10. There are other rigs too, like Minipumper 44...... <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Banghead' />

To add to Dave's comments, Sq.5 came came to existance when Sta.5 was closed in about 1985....the crews from engine and ladder 5 formed the new Company Squad 5 which ran from Sta.1

Dave and Jim...Great stuff. The history is almost as interesting as the rigs some times. Feel free to continue on with the history less of the AFD.

I know its a lot but does anyone have a unit history by chance? Or a brief rundown (if thats possible)?

Thanks again on the great information.

And I thought E11 ('82 Seagrave) went to form E15 (Then with a '83 ALF Century) which went to form E23 (Same '83 ALF Century and then a '02 Sp/Quality) and then...LOL.

Seriously though is the current incarnation of E11 ('09 KME Predator running out of St. 23) the 2nd or 3rd organization of that company? And why a 6-person crew?

Many thanks in advance.

Not sure if there is a more specific reason related to the department, but resurgens just means rising again. It's in reference to the city of Atlanta having to "rise from the ashes" after the Civil War. In short, the city of Atlanta was burned to the ground (minus churches/hospitals) by General Sherman of the Union Army during his March to the Sea. Multiple city department logos, including fire, have a Phoenix rising from some ashes to depict the rebirth of the city.
