Relics
Next to the Spartan is this Seagrave which once belonged to the Grasonville VFD of Queen Anne's County, MD. This is (was?) for sale on eBay.

The final rig in the lot was this once-proud ALF JOX operated by the Baker Heights, WV fire company. The man with the torch in his hand told us that this was a completely intact rig less than 24 hours before this picture was taken. A farmer in Fluvanna County had this in his barn for many years and called the salvage yard to come pick it up and do their thing with it, so...they did. What a shame knowing that with some TLC, this could have been a road-worthy vehicle again.

What exactly happened to the Grasonville rig?

The Baker Heights rig is the first ALF JOX pumper I've ever seen! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' />

Here is the BHVFD 700 series when in service, I do not know the exact specs or original dept. (1976 slide)

This sat thruout the 1990's on the east side of US 340/522 adjacent to the state? prison in Double Tollgate VA., about 10 miles north of Front Royal. Photography was very difficult since it was 100's of feet from the highway and also the proximity of the prison. It left there about 10 years ago.(I bet Mike Sanders remembers it too.)

IIRC, the Grasonville rig was at a call on US50 when it was hit by a Truck.

This is the story from Grasonville's website..

It is a very good story

Monday, January 11, 2010 - Monday night at approximately 10:15 PM Queen Anne’s County Station 2 (Grasonville) was dispatched for an MVC with injuries on Route 50 at the Kent Narrows Bridge. The road conditions were starting to diminish due to a light snow fall on the shore. Engine 26 had arrived on location and was blocking two lanes of traffic to ensure a safe scene while the crew assisted with the accident. All was well until the crew was back in the Engine and waiting to return to the station.

A tractor and trailer was headed west bound and apparently did not see all of the BRIGHT FLASHING LIGHTS and side swiped Engine 26. With a crew of 6 on board, 4 of them were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis where they were treated and released.

From now on when you see an emergency scene, please try to remember this incident and slow your vehicle down and pay attention to what is in front of you instead of the accident you are passing.

Firefighters and EMS personnel, whether they are paid or volunteer, risk their lives every day on the highway trying to help others in need. Our job is dangerous enough without having to worry about getting hit by a negligent driver. We are just as busy as everyone else; we all have families that we would like to return home safely to, but we take time out of our day to help someone in need.

THANK YOU for doing your part to keep us safe while we keep you safe.

Chief Anthony and the members of the Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank their brother firefighters and the community for the support, thoughts and prayers in their time of need.

Thanks for the info on the Grasonville Seagrave. It looked much better back when I shot it. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

This Spartan/Darley was once operated by the Rescue Fire Company 37 of Susquehannah Twp, PA. It's now located in a salvage yard in Cumberland County, VA.

This rig is still in the same area, just across the street behind a small garden/deli store. It is a 1974 International/Sanford, 750/500 The woman in the shop said her father and brother bought it years ago, A man working outside said it was for sale, $ 4000.
