The Scotland School is located in Franklin County, about 4 miles northeast of Chambersburg, the facility was closed last year by Gov. Eddie Rendell.
The school is several miles from a fire station, and had this 1957 Ford F/Pirsch 750/550 for fire protection. Anyone know the status of this rig? Also, is this a davepa photo???

This rig is still around and actually is still at the school, it is maintained and semi-owned by Jim Warne who is in charge of the fire police in the county, operates the county air unit and worked at the Scotland school for many years. He takes it out for parades from time to time and is always happy to get it out for pictures and such.

I can verify three off them.
1- Apollo Hose Company # 2 is the second one in and is properly marked.
2- Next to it, on the right, is George G. McMurtry Vandergrift No. 1
3- Next to it, on the right, is Vandergrift # 2... this is clearly idenitifiable due to the eagle being on the ball (the only one like that in the area that the "old timers" know of).
As far as Turtle Creek and Pernassus??? IDK. I know that TC has a newer AF that they still have and that one in your photo looks nothing like it. As far as Pernassus, you may be onto something. I hear that was taken in front of Highland Hose's station in Tarentum so maybe a local historian might be able to help. We have a hi-res version of the 4 parked in front with the names of them on it.

As a side note the George G. McMurtry Fox was just recently re-habbed and is now back out and about after 20 years. We also know the whereabouts of the Vandergrift #2 Fox but do not know about the Apollo # 2 Fox. Does anyone have some better photos of it or know where it might have gone?

Axe, there were 2 separate photos taken at Highland Hose. The first was the station dedication in 1928. At that time they didn't have their fox yet. That one had tha Parnassus Fox. The second one was at Highland Hose, it had Highlands Fox. The Parnassus Fox was not in that one. Unfortunately, the Parnassus Fox was scrapped in 1954. There was nothing wrong with it. It was a shame. It was a nice looking rig.

My father, Purple Pete, had told me years ago that Apollo #2's Fox was cut-up for scrap after the Oren was placed into service. I believe he said it went to Wisebans (NA Wrecking) to meet its fate... On another note, my dad was offered Vandergrift #2's Fox for I believe $400 but mom said no.....One of the few times mom was wrong..

Open Cab Mack, just to let you ponder this one, if you compare the 2 photos the one with all the serial numbers, models, and names on it and the one with all the firefighters on the trucks. I believe they are the exact some picture just one without the firefighters in it. Cause when you line up certain people in the 2 photos they are in the exact same positions in both of them, that's what got me thinking they were the same pictures. Also i am pretty sure that Tarentum never had 2 foxes, they have only had Highland's '31 i believe. Correct me if i am wrong. And also i was talking to one of Highland's older members and they stated that their fox was never in one of those photos.

Highland Hose has had one Fox. It was one of four made,and the only one left. The other two, Eureka and Summit had Seagraves early on.

Eureka's first Moterised rig was a Converted 1915 Pierce Arrow Touring car (the first moterised Fire Rig in the valley) Then a 1917 Brockway, The next was a American La France about 1923. In 1941 The 1250 GPM Seagrave and in 1970 The 1500 GPM American La France. Today the 2009 Ferrara 2000 GPM with 54 ft. Squrt. Eureka Has the origional hand 4 wheel Pumper that came from the city of Allegheny (the north side of Pittsburgh)

It was nice of you to give the info on the tarentum companies, i am just trying to figure out if the photo that i posted, is the same as the one at the top of the page.
It almost has to be, just a matter of figuring out which information is in fact correct.
Look at the banners on Highland Hose's station and the little boy in the dutch hat standing on the sidewalk near the railing on the far right... he barely moved.
Same goes for the gents on top of the station porch.
