Today, myself and Kelvin Cater (kiddo76) ventured out locally to try and catch up on couple rigs we needed. As most of you may already know, Dania Beach Fire Rescue will be absorbed by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue come Jan. 29th so the pressure is on to try and photograph their entire fleet before the transition.

The highlight of the day is thanks to Kelvin. Passing through a Publix shopping center, Kelvin notices BSO R6 (Port Everglades) sitting in the parking lot, the lieutentant inside waiting for his crew to return. Kelvin turns and says "wouldn't it be awesome to shoot Chemical-6 today?" Insisting, Kelvin says "come on, let's ask" (thinking to myself, I said... "yea right, the clearance we would need for that) so... finally, I gave in and said alright go ask! 5, 10 minutes go by and he returns and says... Okay, we can't get into the Port, but the lieutentant on the rescue called the station and they are going to bring the huge chemical truck to us!!!

Plantation Fire Dept. recently transitioned to the "county" unit numbering system. Below I will list the old numbering system, in parentheses is our "newly" assigned county number.



PFD Sta.1 (Sta.25) - E21 (E25), E16 (E225), R276 (R25) & Utility-5 (Support-25)

PFD Sta.2 (Sta.56) - E19 (E56), Snorkel-15 (Snorkel-56) R256 (R56) & Utility-8 (Utility-56)

PFD Sta.3 (Sta.62) - E20 (E62), L23 (L62)

PFD Sta.4 (Sta.76) - E25 (E76), E14 (E276) & R225 (R76)

Larry,



Manning is based on how many volly's show up for the call, E296 is the only real "reserve" engine, she is the front line reserve unit to go if another rig goes down, except for rigs at Sta.25 because of bay limitations, example; If E25 goes down, E225 becomes their front line. E225 is also our hose tender, carrying 1200ft of 5' Hose and E276 is assigned to our training division.

Interesting and good information. I had no idea that PFD had a volunteer contingent. What is the paid staffing per day, per shift? And how do the volunteers factor into it.

Plantation is more of a combination department... Our Chiefs, Staff, Inspectors & Rescue (EMS) are paid. The suppression is all volunteer, although we do receive a stipend check quarterly.
