Is it 15 or 25 companies per day that are being "browned out"? I thought it was 25 unless that has been reduced (hopefully).
Thanks in advance.

Today 22 Fire Companies, 9 Ambos, 10 EMS Captains & 2 Haz Mat Squads are closed, per Task Force 89's Facebook page. Engine 89 is one of those Fire Companies.
Hope that helps,
WHAT??? New Dodge RA's???? I must have missed that somewhere. Is LAFD switching from type III Ford to type I Dodge? Is Wheeled Coach still the prefered builder? Just curious but anxiously awaiting pics!
John

If they are having to brown out companies, how can they afford to keep buying all of these new pieces of apparatus?

I would think it comes out of a different fund. I know in indiana we have a general fund (one tax rate) and we have a Equipment fund (purchases of equipment that last more than a year). The equipment fund is a different tax levied on citizens and is only for major purchases.

Same way many, many finacially strapped cities buy new rigs but cut staffing. Its very easy to buy a $500K pumper with 1 check but quite another to pay for a 4-person crew for the entire time the company is in service; from organization on.

Yes all well & good but like in Canada. It doesn't matter where the money comes from. Whether it is Federal, Provincial or Municipal there is still only one tax payer paying into all levels of Government, so I don't think it really matters how the cheques are divided it all comes out of the tax paying public.

Agreed but as ACPD pointed it while its the same city and same "bank", a lot of times it comes down to which line item in the budget is designated for what. Some departments budget a percentage each year for rig replacement so when the rig is due for replacement the money is sitting in a capital outlay or rig account or line item just for its purchase. By putting it in different line items within the budget politicians can craft different ways of justifying certain expenses and/or cuts.
There are also different types of taxes which can only be used for certain items. For instance in Stafford Hotel/Motel Tax can not be used for salaries of personnel but can be used for infrastructure and capital equipment purchases. While this tax is in a different account and goverened by a seperate politcial subdivision (SEDC), the funds are used for certain infrastructure projects (roads, etc.) leaving traditional city taxes used for other purposes.
Just some thoughts.
