Looks good, looking forward to seeing it in person. The black/red is still going to take some time to get used to. (Eventhough 2 H&Ls have had it).

Its good to see a set of rescue tools on it too. Ive always wondered why there wasnt a northside company with it. Riverview is a long haul for a Squad to get to for extrication.

Phil, all city pumpers are equipped with a similar set of hurst tools.

"Heavier" Tools and rams, airbags and rescue struts. You'll see other area departments that have beefed up their engine companies due to money and manpower that have gone away from fully manned rescue compainies. You are correct about the long haul to the extremes of the city. If a squad makes it to the scene, theyre probably going to be working with their tools. More often than not on *pin jobs* the 1st or 2nd engine can get the extrications complete before the squad arrvies.

I was at FDIC and I looked closely at the Q on the bumper of Engine 8 and, to my dismay, saw an electronic speaker behind it. Maybe it's better than no Q at all but... <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />



Other than that, it's not a bad looking rig and it's definately a conversation piece, for sure, as to the way the front and rear preconnects are set up on it. If it works for the StLFD then it's all good! That's what's most important.



I do like the fact that the new pumpers wil be designated on the radio as "Engines." I think the quints should be called "Quints" on the radio instead of "Trucks." And while we're at it, they should start calling 801, 802, etc. "Battalion 1", "Battalion 2", etc., etc. on the radios as well. I don't like the "Officer 1", "Officer 2", etc. or "801", "802", etc. designations. "810" should be something like "Deputy 1" or "Division Chief 1" like in other big cities. But that's just me!

Maybe I am way out of line here but I can't count on both my hands (and feet) the number of posts related to a most likely $250,000.00+ fire apparatus being judged by the type of siren it has (or should have). Seriously, I have never heard of a siren putting a fire out, or rescuing someone from a burning building. Just my 2 cents!

I made the comment about the siren being an electronic Q because someone thought it was a mechanical Q.



Some of us are passionate about the Q siren. It's what makes a firetruck sound good! Yeah, I know that a siren doesn't put a fire out or rescue someone from a burning building, but a mechanical Q means a lot to some of us. Not to judge some of the local volunteer fire departments where a mechanical Q may not be on the apparatus due to budget restraints, but maybe that's why someone doesn't understand the meaning behind why some of us think highly of the mechanical Federal Q2B siren.



I'm not judging the new StLFD pumpers by their siren, if you read my post carefully.

I will bet you money that St. louis City has the most accidents with our apparatus that we need that extra umph! to clear traffic. We have THE worst drivers! not just some of the fire guys but MOST of our medic can't drive worth a sh! Plus, nobody moves out of the way anymore, not here! So, yea i think we need real Federal Q's and Powercalls!

Im going to guess that it is well over $250,000 & closer to &400,000 (I got an e-mail from the local Smeal rep for stock demo that runs $346,122 last week). As for a siren putting a fire out, it doesn't. Neither does a light tower, or an ergonomic hosebed. These things may not put a fire out, but they are all items that help us do our job better & safer whether it is responding to, working on, or picking up from a scene. Just my 2 cents...
