The crash truck at Payne field once operated F-26, a 1977 Consodyn Fire X with 1500/3000/300/500# PK dry chem., an ex Spokane Wa. rig.

Payne Field ran this big Darley built apparatus as Engine -26. The engine was built in 1992 on a Spartan Gladiator chassis and had a 1750 pump, 1000 gallons of water and 100 gallons of foam concentrate.

1989

Prefabricated open crew cab installed. Portable plastic crew cab roof installed which can be removed for operation of the Stang monitor. Hard suction and suction brackets removed. Ladder brackets and ladders moved to former hard suction location on apparatus. Ladder brackets replaced with breathing apparatus compartments.

1995-96

Converted to Large Diameter Hose Tender. Stang monitor removed. Crew cab removed. New piped-in, detachable monitor installed. Booster tank reduced to 250 gal. Ladder brackets removed. Mask compartments removed. Two suction brackets and hard suctions installed on each side. Equipment compartments installed on each side. Hose bed covered by two hinged diamond plate lids. High intensity flood lights installed at front end of hose bed.

1999

250 gal foam system installed.

In 2003, the Seattle Fire Department purchased eight American La France 1500 GPM triple combination pumpers. After the initial purchase they acquired an additional engine of the same type. Thanks to Rich Schneider for the historical information he provided.

Each is equipped with a top mounted pump control panel, a 500 gallon booster tank, a 10 gallon Class A foam tank, and a Cummins 330 HP diesel.

Built on American La France "Metropolitan" chassis with an "Eagle" cab-front.

Nearly three months ago, there was a request for photos of the new engine in Burien, WA. I drove up there yesterday morning and saw it out. It is a Pierce Arrow XT, job # 23472. It has a 515hp DDEC engine, 2000gpm pump, and 500gal water tank. It also has a Husky 12 foam system per the dealer's website. Here are a few photos.
