FLORIDA RIGS
i just saw palm harbor had 2 engines and their quint for sale in a used fire truck book...obv the 1998 Truck 67 and then 2 of the 1998 pumps....which 2 pumps? I know they replaced E65 a couple of years ago...anybody have any ideas? or even better new photos of the replacements? i love seeing the Pinellas County stuff....and where is 16 going?
Dan, Engine 16 is quartered at the old Kenneth City fire station at 46th Av. N./58th St. Pinellas Park won the contract to provide service for the City of Kenneth City about 2 years ago. Kenneth city used to have their own volunteer department up until about '88 or '89, and it was Pinellas County Station 21. When the volunteers were disbanded, unk reason, Lealman took over contract service for the small city, but did not use the station, they responded from their stations 18, now at 54 Av N./40 St. and 19, 46 Av. N./67 St. When Lealman lost the KC contract, Pinellas Park disbanded Engine 33 and organized Engine 16, originally a BLS engine, but now an ALS engine. Now here is where it gets complicated, the number 21, originally KC, went to PP stand alone rescue station at 118 Av. N./31 St. as R21. When the number 37 came available from Largo, PP changed R21 to R37. Then......Lealman, who won the Tierra Verde contract from St. Petersburg, changed the TV station from #2 to #21 with Engine 21. The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport ARFF station was #16, but now is ID'ed as #00 in the County CAD. So.....PP, when they occupied the old KC station after renovation took the number 16. Confused? Lealman now has Stations 18, 19 and 21. Pinellas Park now has Stations 16, 33, 34, 35, 36 and 37.

Great synopsis! I always figure this stuff out just by process of elimination.

And - does anyone know about Palm Harbor? I'd love to see them with some new E-Ones.

I also just saw in a magazine at the fire house Palm Harbor has 2 engines and a quint up for sale, so I can only assume they just got a few new rigs or will so be getting some.

I just received a email with a news report of one of Orlando's Engines burning up on a highway.

Since there has been some discussion on new deliveries for Florida departments, I'll post this here. I have it on good authority that Tampa will be purchasing probably with 2011 funds for a 2012 delivery, one Quantum pumper, I would guess either for E9 or E11, as they are two of the oldest front line pumpers still on the roster. As well, a Quantum mid mount tower is in the works, probably to replace Truck 14 as that is the oldest front line aerial apparatus. Talk on replacing the HazMat apparatus also. I'll post more info as I get it, then, when they are delivered it's up to you guys still back in Florida to get some photos.

Yes, it appeared to be a reserve engine running as Engine 16.

It was a reserve unit, that was being run as Engine 16. Engine 14 was the Engine that responded to extinguish the fire. According to a friend who works at OFD the crew barely pulled off the road and escaped.

Awesome!! I can't wait.

I was wondering if Tampa would ever switch to the Velocity chassis, but Quantum seems to be satisfying everyone. Do you know when Station 22 is going to open? I guess they're putting one of the Enforcers at Engine 22. Now that my office is in New Tampa I see Station 20 and 21 rigs all the time. Very interesting to see the way HCFR, TFR, and TTFD interact in that area...along I-75, Fletcher Ave., etc.

I hear that HCFR is ordering a number of new Brontos, and adding at least two new Ladder companies - one at Station 20 in Town N Country, not sure of the other. Very exciting!

srq2009,

So is Hillsborough switching to Pierce?? Pierce took over the Bronto line.

Alex (srq2009), I've been told Station 22 is due to be operational at either the end of 2011 or early 2012, I believe the land prep is under way, but I will comfirm. One of the five Enforcers has been designated "Engine 22" and is stored at TFR Supply Division on 21st Av./35th St. It is designated soley for Engine 22 and is not used as a spare. It gets some "use" as a PR unit while waiting for the Station to be opened and the Company to be officially organized. This photo is courtesy Tampasbravest.com.

I show shop #7567 to have been assigned to Engine 15, then Engine 06 and I guess now Engine 22.

Does that sound right?

Corrections welcome.

Larry, the original assignments were #7563 E8, #7564 E10, #7565 E13, #7566 E11, and #7567 E15. Reassignements are E8 to E17(#7563), E13 to E21(#7565), E11 to E6(#7566), and now E15 to E22(#7567), ****15's rig was actually in the spare pool for a short time before being assigned as E22, so it may have run as E6, as the company # placards are removable/interchangable. I believe the original plan was for E15 to go to 6 but for some reason E11 was reassigned there instead. E10 was the only company to keep their Enforcer and as far as I know it will stay there it's whole career like their '92 Dash did. E10 runs about 2000-2200 per year, so they're on the low end of response #s. They did have a reassigned Quantum for a short while before the Enforcers were delivered though. Attached is a photo of E10's '92 Dash.

Larry, in case you're keeping record, the photo of E10's '92 Dash does not have the shop # on the outside yet, they were just inside the driver's door, but it's #7538.

Joe, thanks for the clarification. I appreciate the correct information and detail. And thanks for the shop # for Engine 10 as TFD is one of the few departments I keep track of shop #'s on.

And are the Pierce Enforcer rigs '06 or '07 model year?

2006, they were a one off by an administration that didn't last long, We were told it was a "buy 5 for the price of 3" kind of thing with the cheaper chassis. They are nice rigs though, the body is the basic "Tampa" pumper body, but the cab is where there was issue. With the engine tunnel so high and just between the driver and officer, ther was little room. As well, without a raised crew area, the rear cab was small inside. The cab interior also just didn't seem as rugged as the Quantums. They have Capterpilar motors as well, so parts inventory had to be increased as the rest of the Engine/Ladder fleet are Detroits. But for the Engine Cos. running between 1000 or so(E6) and 2000(E10) they seem to be OK. I can't however see them lasting as long as the Quantums. The five '97 Quantums are in the spare pool now and the are still in relatively good shape.

Good to know. Too much trouble for a breakdown of apparatus and assignment by model year from around '92 on?

Thanks in advance.
