Los Angeles County Fire Dept
The Spartan USAR rig is still at 103s. Last time I saw it, it was designated Collapse 103. In talking to the guys at 103’s they said they keep the collapse equipment as well as some USAR tools on the truck. In the event of a major emergency, they can recall some USAR firefighters and pair it up with another engine company to make another USAR resource available.
People complaining about spam in the spam mail box... Huh, what'll they think of next?

It's mostly just used as a reserve USAR now either when the the frontline goes out of service or as Jack mentioned can be manned by a recall crew.

Actually in regards to the Reserve USAR, the USAR guys said they do have a reserve Trailer (looks like the trailer from USAR 103 & 130) that is stored the Pacoima facility. Funny thing is the tractor that is designated tow vehicle for the reserve trailer was last spotted behind the apparatus maintenance building at Fire Station 129.

Type 3 Brush engines. They were mainly kept at houses that had a Truck Comp., so that they could man it & then they would backfill to man the Truck.

What is E55? I was under the impression that it was a type 3 or 4, and the only one of its kinda in the fleet other then OES rigs?

Pardon my laziness,

My immediate first thought on this rig was that it looks like the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree of Fire Engines. Poor thing.

Engine 55 is 1995 Freightliner/Fire Bann 4x4 a Type 3 engine. Engine 155 is a 4x4 International 300/400 that was formerly a 400 series engine.

The County BOS has given LACoFD approval to seek bids for replacing Engine 55 with a New Type 3.

Actually, Engine 55 is a Freightliner with a body built by Master Body Works. And Engine 155 is an International Cargostar 2 wheel drive. Engine 79 had at one time, a Freightliner with a Fire Bann body.

I know I asked before but I don't remember getting an answer.

Thank you and have a great memorial day,

Station 55 and Station 155 are located the island of Catalina. Station 55 is manned by a captain and another firefighter year round but Station 155 is a call firefighter station. Call firefighters are in essence people who live in the nearby neighborhood are are paid when they are paged (they have pagers) and respond to calls.

Will their current rig become spare or go to 155?

Who knows, it may end up there. Then again the 2007 run stats show that Engine 155 had 28 runs while Patrol 155 had 60 runs.

For you compartment shot-types, here are the compartment shots of LACoFD USAR 103.

The only one I couldn't get was the R1 compartment (first compartment behind tractor on the Officer's side). The photos go Front-Back on Engineer's side, then Front-Back on Officer's side.

First, an overall rig shot with the compartments closed:
