1989 Young Crusader II 1250-750 Pumper Engine 3.

Mark Carr photo

Coral Gables (3) and Palm Beach County, FL (14) also had Young Crusader II pumpers. They did not have the bus doors. The original plan that went along with the kickbacks was that the Palm Beach County pumpers would be retrofitted with closed in jump seats a few years after their purchase. Unfortunately, the company went belly up shortly after they got theirs.

There was also another department somewhere in the Florida Keys that had one but I never saw it or photographed it.

Monroe County, FL the "Keys" had 3 and all were still in service as front line engines in 2005 but were since replaced, Station assingments as follows: Sta. 13 Monroe County Fire Rescue/ Big Pine Key Vol. FR E-13, Sta. 17 Monroe County Fire Rescue/ Ex Conch Key Vol. FR E-17, and Islamorada Fire Rescue Sta. 20 or 22.

All 3 engines were triplets from what I was told and all had 1250 pumps and 1,000 gal water with faom cells, these trucks all had 6 man cab open jump seats, over the years to meet the needs for each rigs first due they were overhauled and added extra compartmant doors on the rear to hold extrication tools and moved the ladder off the side and placed over the hose bed so extra compartments for the ALS EMS gear could be on the trucks.

I had the joy of working on Engine 13 and man, those engines could turn circles around a car, they were some of the smalled wheel based engines most of us had ever seen.

BTW: There is a really good picture of Engine 13 as Engine 30 before the county re-numbered the apparatus, In the Young Apparatus Section, maybe someone could repost the image !

Dave,

Where was #89-N943 assigned first? Quint 4 or Quint 9?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if it was Quint 4 from delivery, but it was Quint 9 after it was Quint 4. When I photographed it as Quint 9, about 4 or 5 years ago, it was the only Young still in frontline service.

I would give up a key part of my body for one of the Crusader II badge plates for my collection. Do any of you FLA guys know of any around? I asked Dick Young if he still had any around but they were pretty much made for the rigs as they went out the door.

Lake County, Florida has recently taken delivery of a 2011 International/Pierce Tanker assigned to Tanker 11. This rig will be replacing an 09' International/Pierce Tanker which was originally assigned to Tanker 10. The new assignment for the 09' Tanker is unknown.

[/quote]Is Station 10 still an "either/or" station? Last time I stopped by there (4 years ago-is) they had the engine and tanker staffed with two FFs.

Currently, Station 10 only houses Engine 10. Tanker 10 was moved to Station 11. But yes, Engine 10 is staffed with 2, and Tanker 10 is staffed with 2. Though my guess is Tanker 10 will be moved from 11 when the new Tanker goes in service, and will be sent to 78. Just about a year ago, their rig rolled over while en-route to a Tractor Trailer Fire. All Tankers(11, 78, & 110) are part of the Tanker Task Force and are 4 door International/Pierce's.

I had the opportunity to drive the eMax demo that was at the FDIC. A local rep demo'd it to our dept. I'm not a E\-One guy, and we are an all Pierce dept., but I was very impressed with this rig. The compartment space, the driving of the rig, especially the turning radius was very impressive. Good luck and can't wait to see the photos once it comes in.

senatobiafire704,

Thanks and we are very excited to see the end result. I am hoping to attend both the mid and final inspections, if not I will definitely have pictures when she's arrives in September.
