A good friend of mine lives in the appartments above E-40 / L-35. Usually when I'm down in NYC I try to stop in all the time. When the house had Macks, there was a little more space in the apparatus bay!!!

What exactly does the Emergency crew do? Are they special call only like a hazmat or the rescues?

I believe that is the designation "Emergency Crew" for the "on road" mechanic[s] from the Shops
