The '71 Ford, Pirsch 1000/500 began as E61 and moved to E201 about 1980. I have it as going to Midland Allegany County MD in 1983 where it later was converted into a squad. .

Not quite correct,Rusty; it went to Midland in spring,1992, my photo was taken up there in May. It was sent that summer to 4-Guys who removed the Swab box from the 1975 Ford C and then installed on the Ford L chassis w/additional bodywork. It stayed in service until 2006.

This is Metro Support Unit 5. It was purchased by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and assigned to Prince George's County Station 5 in Capital Heights to provide additional one hour SCBA w/spare bottles and mass causality supplies for use on Subway incidents. DC and Arlington also received identical units.

1961 Seagrave, one of two purchased and the last conventional cab and gas engine apparatus purchased. In 1962 it was replaced by a new cab forward diesel Seagrave and transferred to Truck 20. The new Seagrave was assigned to downtown Truck 1 to show of the new technology.

The second photo shows it rusting to death on US 30 about 2 miles east of Gettysburg, PA and is now gone.

This appears to be an Arlignton Co., VA WLF, Randy, Rusty, or Mike could you confirm/deny.

Paul

Frank,

GREAT pics of these older rigs.

I remember from my McLean days that CJVFD did operate a WLF w/a Cincinnati cab.

Cabin John did operate their own, and maybe two (I don't have my Montgomery County information immediately available).

Neither of Cabin John's Wards had the layout of emergency lights on the front of the cab as shown in this picture. I don't think this is Cabin John's. I think Warren Jenkins has posted a few photos of their Wards in the past, both in the original design and after a rehab. Maybe he can help us out with this one.

They were sweet engines! Both had Detroit 671's and 10 speeds. They still had one of them when I was a member there in 1991 for a short time while I was in college.

Paul, Mike, Doc, Frank -sorry if I miss anyone.

On the '73 WLF I am betting on the pic as one Arlington County's as well given warning lights and the transverse booster reel (that was an Arlington thing) plus no compartment below the mattydales. There was (as I have it) a '73 1000/500 going to Wagon 70 in Rosslyn.

Yes Cabin John had 2) as 101 & 301. E101's was rehabbed in '83 by Mt Aetna later became E102 and left in 1998 last seen (by me -I'll try and find the pic) at Vienna in Dorchester County parked outside OOS circa 11/03. E301's was replaced by 1989 (as I have it) no idea where it went.

Doc on the Bethesda to Midland Ford, Pirsch you are quite correct on the date. That was a typo on my part in notes as '83 does not ring right either. Always need someone to check my homework.

As for the Rockville "A" that was as far as I know their only "A" model and ran as I have been told as Engine 37, 32 and finally 34. Was retired in 1966 going to Thornhurst PA -corrections welcome. Would love to see more of their old "B" models.

Great stuff thanks for sharing.

Lets see of I can size this right. Yes it is a sad sight!

  1.

Shot November 2003 just outside the Vienna VFCo Station 1-1. Lettered as Engine 14 suggests its arrival after Dorchester County's circa '99 numbering change but before the subsequent one ca '01. (now it would be E11-4, original system it would have been 314) One of Rusty's Photos.

Sad. They showed it getting removed on a trailer during the show. Not sure where it ended up.
