East St. Louis Classic Photos

Well, judging by the 2 East Boogie threads that are up now, it looks like there is quite a bit of interest in the lovely town. So here a a few pics out of my collection.



The first shot is a spectacular fire at the Ben Gutman Truck Service facility. East St. Louis was a huge industrial town in the day which made for many great fires.

Next is a fire in a 3 story brick. Seen in the photo is East St. Louis Truck 4 which was a 1962 International VCO/ALF 65'.

East St. Louis Truck 4, a 1953 International/Central City Service Truck. This is a great shot of a classic rig with a perfect East St. Louis background.

Here's a beautiful Central-St. Louis delivery shot of East St. Louis Engine 4.

This was a spectacular fire at the Corno Feed Products at 1931 Baugh Avenue. If you're traveling down I-64 through East Boogie you can still see a a large white concrete building just east of 25th street. Thats all thats left of this bldg some 35 years later. And it'll be there another 35 years I'm sure.

The Sept.1980 issue of Firehouse Mag has an ad from the City of E.ST.L about the sale of 8 used fire trucks, only other info was;" repair needed". Wonder if the sale included many of the classics in the previous pics?

Alls I can remember from my visit in '86 was the C series Ford/Eones, including the Telesqurt, an a Segrave sitting outside the main station.

Here are a few photos that I've taken over the years in East Boogie. The first photo is of my first fire ever in ESTL. The ex-Modern Asphalt Company warehouse fully involved in December of 1986 some 25 years ago.

Next is a shot of several buildings burning on November 15, 1987. We caught this as we were returning from a trip riding with E-112 and Tower 21 in Chicago. I remember the locals being very pissed with the FD that day as the fire kept spreading down the block.
