In 1968 Baltimore took delivery of two Seagrave 100-foot TDA's in November. These were considered 1969 trucks by the department. Here is Truck 28's 1969 Seagrave, #R-4406, delivered on 11/16/68.

The Baltimore City FD split their order of six engines and four trucks in 1970, with four engines and two trucks coming from Seagrave and two of each from American LaFrance. The 1970 Seagrave 1000/500 engines were the first sedan cab engines in the department. Here is Engine 19 with Seagrave #R-4632, delivered on 3/26/1970.

The 1970 American LaFrance 100-footers were the first rear-mount aerial ladders in the department. They did not arrive until November and were assigned to Trucks 24 and 26. Here is Truck 24, ALF #12-1-2316, delivered in November.

In 1971, Baltimore would receive two more Seagrave 1000/500 sedan pumpers and two more ALF 100-foot Rear-mount aerial ladders. Here is Engine 41's 1971 Seagrave pumper, Seagrave #B-73063, delivered on 9/24/1971. Duane didn'y get any photos of Engine 25's, Seagrave #B-73062, delivered on 9/21/1971.

The two 1971 American LaFrance 100-foot rear-mount aerial ladders were delivered in November of 1971. Here is Truck 11, ALF #2660.

Truck 14 also was delivered in November of 1971. It carried ALF #2661. Tomorrow night I'll finish up Duane Troxel's photos from the 1973 Baltimore trip. Duane was in Baltimore from October 15-19, 1973 and left on the 20th to photograph the Washinton D.C. department before flying back to Minnesota.

That is Engine 35 not 39. Engine 39 was a fireboat. And, where do you get this "Ladder Co."? They are clearly marked "Truck Co.".

hawkinspoint- Thank you for the correction. I misread the number when I was getting the info from my Excel spreadsheet when I mistakenly posted Engine 39 instead of Engine 35.



My sincerest apologies to everyone in the Baltimore area for referring to your "Trucks" as "Ladders." I should have known better. When I make up my apparatus lists in Excel I always use "E" for engines, "L" for ladders, and "T" for tankers before the number. I should have been using "Truck" all along when referring to Baltimores Ladder Trucks. I'm surprised nobody said anything before this.



It is interesting the terminologies that differ across the USA. In Kansas City and other departments in that area of the country they use "Pumper" instead of "Engine." In some areas "Ladders" are called "Aerials." In Wichita what I would call an "Engine" is referred to as a "Motor."

I want to thank GADave for catching an error I made on post 121. Engine 47's WLF pumper was incorrectly identified as a 1964- it was a 1962 WLF #8009, the twin to 8008 in post 114. Baltimore did not have any 1964 Ward LaFrance pumpers. Both of the 1962 WLF pumpers should have been listed as 1000/300. My apologies again for the error.
