I always hoped to shoot this truck, but Long View replaced it with a Pierce before I got the chance to shoot it. I was happy to find it still in one piece! I wish the owner would put it inside with the rest of the collection, but I don't think it would fit!

There were several more trucks to shoot in the collection, that I was unable to do due to time constraints. Some of the rigs I didn't get to shoot include an ALF 700 series engine, another Mack C engine, another Ford engine similar to the 1941 Engine 343 truck, and several others that I couldn't see. I have an open invitation from the owner to come back and finish shooting the collection and bring some friends with me. Who's up for a short road trip? It's only a few hours from my house.

The last truck I was able to shoot is a sad one. Since it was closing time, I was told I could shoot it as I drove by, but not to get out of the vehicle to get specs off of it. Hopefully next time... So here she is...

Does anybody have any info on the White/Howe similar to this that served Oak Hill??
Reply
Howe,

I don't show a record in my database of Oak Hill ever having a truck even similar to this. I show all their trucks being Pierce except a Ford C/Howe engine, which they do still have. You may certainly know about a truck that I've never heard about!

I'll have to search my files. I thought for sure it was Oak Hill. It was actually on the cover of a Howe brochure at that time.

Here are three rigs I came across yesterday on a day trip through Tennessee. I found them all sitting at the BST Fire Apparatus shop in between Clinton and Knoxville.

This truck, along with the McMinn County rescue truck were behind a locked gate. Thanks to Jay Thomson for posting the specs for the McMinn truck on his website! I was unable to get any info off this truck. But, based on the lettering on the doors, I'm gonna say it came from Clinch Valley, TN. Where it came from before there, I need y'alls help to figure out!

[/quote] Looks like an EX KCFD Kansas City Missouri Fire Department ALF Century Interstate Special. There were six 1983 ALF Centuries delivered under a contract that supplied Dallas, OKC, Fort Worth, Wichita, and KCFD basically the I-35 corridor. KCFD's were white over lime-green however Pumper 8,11,35 were repainted White over Red. There paint always looked funny since the shop did not primer them before painting, they just shot over the lime green. Pumper 8 however was wrecked twice and had a nice paint job by the end. They were all sold in 1997-98. The striping looks like KCFD at the time also the white-red strobes, the light bar looks to be retrofitted on the Aerodynic brackets. KCFD added these super long Aerodynics to five of the six. I can tell one siren speaker is missing. of the three repaints Pumper 35 never had a Q siren added. Pumper 8 and Pumper 11 added Q sirens on their own. Pumper 17,18,32 remained white over lime-green. The three door hing and the non curved jump seat window. Thanks for posting would love to find out more. Thanks again Rick

This truck is also new to them since last time I visited. They got this truck from a fire department in my county. While Saunook owned this truck, I was never able to get a decent picture of it. At least I got a pic of it here with the Saunook lettering before they re-letter it!

I take it they are a small rural department. All though old they look to be in very good and solid shape. They should last for a number of years yet.
