My daughter and I were out running our Saturday errands when I heard Omaha Fire dispatch companies to a reported house fire in the 5300 block of North 27th Avenue. Dispatch advised companies that there was a domestic dispute in progress and that one of the parties lit a can of gas in the kitchen.
Companies on the initial dispatch were E21, E22, E5, T21, M21, R33, B1 and B2.
Engine 21 arrived first a reported heavy smoke and fire on approach and laid in with a 5" supply line. A working fire was declared. Rescue 30 (air supply) was added to the run.
Companies initially tried an interior attack, but had to pull out for a few minutes due to the fire conditions.
Engines 23 and 41 were added to the run.
We had about a nine mile drive from where we were located. The fire was pretty much darkened down, but there were still some pockets of fire.
One supply line and three 1-3/4" hand lines were used.
