These twin E\-One Typhoon pumpers were purchased in 2007. Few facts these were the last E-Ones purchased by Olathe ending twenty-one years of purchasing E\-One. These also marked the return to short wheelbase traditional pumpers with exterior side mounted ladders on the officers side. Also these were the last white over red machines delivered. The department returned in 2010 to our historically accurate traditional solid red livery. Engine 4 developed some paint issues that were covered by warranty. The decision was made to repaint in the historically accurate solid red livery. Engine 7 was not lucky as the number seven indicates and it has remained white over red. The last factory purchased solid red machines were in 1980 and the first factory purchased white over red machine was purchased in 1986.

This pump/tank skid was one of two purchased from Hays Fire Equipment in 1996. This one was placed in our 1988 Dodge Ram pick-up Brush Buggy 1 replacing the 1981 American Brush Queen pump/tank skid. In 2002 the 1996 Skid was transferred the pictured Ford and was relocated to Fire House 3 as Brush Buggy 3. When Fire House 7 was relocated to a new fire house in 2007 the brush buggy was relocated from Fire House 3.

Note: Build Plate shows Detroit 6v92TA motor. Due to mis communication ordered and constructed with a Detroit 6v92TA 350hp. During manufacturing SPFD found the mistake and requested the original spec Series 60 be added. Pierce modified the motor dog house and motor mounts and installed the Series 60 motor. The build plate still shows the 6v92TA and not the installed motor.
Note: First RED fire engine since 1973. First Sedan Cab and Second fully custom pumper for the fire district. Replaced the first fully custom pumper a solid lime-green 1979 Seagrave W canopy cab pumper.

Interesting Note: South Platte is one of three departments dispatched by Kansas City Fire Department Fire Alarm Exchange. South Platte had department dispatchers from 1975-1998 and used traditional numbers Engine 1, 2, 3. South Platte in addition dispatched Smithville, and Lake Waukomis. In July of 1998 South Platte transferred to Platte County Sheriff along with other Platte County Fire Districts and Smithville in Clay County. South Platte was assigned the 20 series. In 2012 South Platte joined the new KCFD Fire Alarm as the sixty series. This was due to Platte County not having funding for the P25 conversion.

There are only three non Sutphen mid mount tower ladders in the Kansas City Metro. Central Jackson County Fire Protection District (Blue Springs-Lake Tapawingo-Grain Valley) has the only Pierce mid mount Tower Ladder in the Kansas City Metro. Merriam, Kansas Fire Department operates the one of two E\-One mid mount Tower Ladder in the Kansas City Metro. South Metroploitan Fire Protection District (Raymore, Missouri) operates the second E\-One mid mount Tower Ladder.
Central Jackson County Fire Protection District's historically accurate color is solid RED. CJCFPD began using this Canary Yellow in 1975 with the delivery of a Pierce/ Hendrickson 1871/ LTI 85ft Rear mount Tower Ladder. CJCFPD operates five fire houses with four Engines, one Truck, one District Chief, and four ambulances.

They are not actually Tower ladders, Sutphen and Aerialscope are the only Tower Ladders manufactured. they are actually Ladder Towers.

You left out the design from Reading Techmatic, marketed as the Teleboom by Ward LaFrance and later the Apache by Boardman.

Very True and accurate statement. I often use Tower Ladder or Tower genericly because it is more easily understood. Funny just last week I broke down the difference Tower Ladder VS Ladder Tower to my Fire Acadmey students.

If you get a Ladder-tower from sutphen it will look similar to this <span>http://www.firenews.org/vt/c/colchester/ColchesterCenterVTTwr41.jpg you can see the full sized railings on top of the box boom to achieve the NFPA rating. But if you get a Tower-Ladder from sutphen it will look like http://www.firenews.org/ct/h/hartford/Ha...3new08.jpg an escape ladder mounted to the top of the box booms and no hand railings. In order to achieve the NFPA rating for more than an escape ladder you need hand rails (I believe at) minimum 12". I believe the option for tower-ladder or ladder-tower from sutphen is available either way on all of their platforms. The original tele-squirts (snorkel product) had a short hand rail and if you remember they became much taller in the early 90's (or you could get fold down railings) in order to meet the NFPA change for the minimum hand railing height. </span>

yes, you can get it either way.....based on what you order from Sutphen will determine wether its a ladder-tower or tower-ladder. If you get only the escape ladder w/ the short grab rails or no grab rails at all it would be a tower-ladder. If you got the full NFPA compliant ladder w/ railings it would then become a Ladder-Tower. I thought the Aerialscope was offered with at one time if not still currently folding railings that when deployed would give the ladder a NFPA compliant rating as a ladder, if true I would imagine a scope w/ that option would now be classified as a Ladder-Tower

On the Sutphen SP and SPH series...the ladders are attached to the boom. The only different is low or high rail (referring to the railings).

also in the tower ladder family would be the Bronto Skylift, Rosenbauer/Metz t-rex, and Spartan ERV's Telestar by definition as stated above? corrections welcomed
