My last visit to the area was about three years ago, at which time I photographed apparatus at the nearby Karns VFD.  The Rural/Metro guys told me about this new rig at Karns.

Rural/Metro has recently purchased this pumper from the North Hampton Fire Company in Pennsylvania.  It used to be painted yellow/blue and should enter service soon.  Unfortunately, there was no one available at the shops to put it in better sunlight.

My route was planned from the northwest to the southeast, resulting in bouncing between departments.  Rural Metro covers areas all around the City of Knoxville.

Just before I left Station 20, these guys stopped by.  Since they were on my list and I had a great spot, I made use of it.

Visible from I-40/I-75, this monster sits at Hamilton Equipment, Inc., a company that builds specialty equipment for the mining industry.  It is one of only four M-23/M-6000 apparatus ever built.  Since it probably takes several gallons of fuel just to crank it up, I didn't ask for it to be positioned better!

My next two stops were Knoxville stations, Headquarters and Station 9.  Two of my targets were in the shops and another was involved with a school tour, but I was able to shoot others.

This apparatus was purchased as a dedicated reserve aerial.  It was running as Ladder 9.

My next stop was Seymour, TN.  They are a fully Volunteer FD operating from six stations.  I was only successful in finding someone at one of them.

Yes.  They operate from 15 stations covering unincorporated areas of Knox County, contracting with the County.
