Formerly Rescue 44 of the Darien FD, a 1980 Ford/Saulsbury. Replaced in 2004, assuming by the markings, turned over to the PD. Looks still good after 32 years....

These things were didn't function well as a structural engine, they were just so-so as a ARFF engine, but they did make a really good brush pumper. Our department ended up having our Amertek glider kit rehabbed into a structural pumper by Pierce.

We had one at the Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground for the helicopters, a backup structural piece and brush unit- Whenever I was assigned as the D/O I would find so many things wrong with it that it had to go OOS to the motor pool.....Mission accomplished!!!!!

I came across this rig this morning in Amelia County, VA on my way to go out buffing. After I came home and did some research to find out the history of the rig, I thought I'd throw up once I saw it in it's original condition.



Based on my research, and talking to a friend that used to volly in Tarrytown, this is a 1960 Mack C95 that served the Rescue Hose Company #1 of North Tarrytown, NY as Engine 85 from 1960 to 1984. Obviously from the lettering, it must have also served in an industrial capacity at some point as well. I'm sure some Martinelli or some others from the area might give additional/corrected information (corrections always welcome). The doors were long gone, so no Mack SN to be found.



The interior has a lot of burns, but it's unclear if it was from the welder's torch or perhaps the reason it was removed from service.

In 1991 with the consolidation of Sta. 6-1 and Sta. 6-9 to become Sta. 6-6 Lancaster Township, the county assigned the Sta. 6-1 number to Armstrong. The fire brigade was disbanded in early 2003.



1960 Mack C95, canopy cab, 1250/500, Thermodyne 707 gas motor, automatic, purchased used from the Rescue Hose#1 of North Tarrytown (Westchester County, NY). Armstrong added a 50 gallon foam tank were the booster reels where. Purchased by Doug Moyer, collector from New York in 2000. All red in color.

Took about an hour, but I tracked down who the owner of the rig is. Going to try to make contact with him this weekend.



Let me re-phrase: I WILL make contact with him and get the beacon and the Q before this rig gets any more scrapped.

The tractor pulling the flatbed in your photos was in the same parking lot yesterday as the Mack. Must have been the new owner picking it up.



I'd still love to know the connection between the new and previous owners.

Probably sold for scrap. With the price of steel its sadly worth more in pieces. The cab probably started on fire by the cutting torch and was put out before it got out of control.

I agree with the scrap, but to drive several hundred miles to get a rig that might get you $2500 in scrap doesn't seem like the best business investment. Oh well, when I talk to the new owner, I'll let you all know what he says.
