This rig was not returned to KME because of funding problems. It was returned to KME because it did not meet the specifications and was constantly breaking down. There were some very serious electrical problems with it and it did not operate in a safe fashion. It was rejected and the second tower cancelled.

I only heard rumors of the money. Some in PFD did not even know the Tower Ladder was in the city. That would explain why most of the time I went to look for it, it was never around if it broke down so much.



Could this be why the sity started to go back to ALF???

The KME tower was only around for a short period of time, that's probably why not too many people knew about it. This has nothing to do with the department purchasing ALF engines. Apparatus purchases are based on the lowest bid. That's how ALF got into the city. The fourteen engines that were delivered have had some major problems with the frames cracking. All of them have been sent back to ALF to be repaired. At the present time, specs are being written for a new tower ladder.

Philadelphia International Airport, I often visited this station as a child.

I was amazed at the size of these trucks.

The others. The year is the first two numbers in the Philadelphia Identification number

I passed by this KME Aerial from the Philadelphia Airport, shortly after it was rearended on I-95 by a tractor trailer.

Frank,

This is a Walter that carried 3000 gallons of water and 500 gallons of foam. I don't have the pump size in my records. Also, the first two numbers of the public property number on each piece of apparatus represent the fiscal year that the funds for the rig's purchase were appropriated from. They don't always reflect the model year of the apparatus.

I don't care what brand it is, the KME 4x4 Aerial is really sharp.

This rig will not be replaced. It is currently at KME being repaired. KME said that they can rebuild it. It will be interesting to see what how it operates once it returns.

Is the repair from the MVC it was involved in a couple years ago on I-95?

Yes this is the same rig. It took a while to find out if it would be rebuilt or scrapped.

I knew it was the rig but wasn't sure if it was still at KME being surveyed for being totaled or repaired, thanks
