Quote:How are the 24 hour shifts working in Baltimore City?
I personally can't stand it.  From what I gather a lot of guys do not like the shift.

New Battalion Chiefs vehicles are at Biddle Street garage.  They do not have any lights on them and they are not lettered yet.  They are similar to the FDNY chiefs vehicles, Ford F350 (I think) quad cab with a cap that will have a pull out command tray.  Oddly enough the were all delivered with snow plows on the front.

Were you all doing 14/10's before the switch to 24's?   Are you now on a 24/48 schedule?  (I love my 24's, but would HATE a 24/48 schedule).

Nothing wrong with 24 on 48 off.  I did it for two years and then switched to 24 on 72 off.

My only beef with 24/48 on is you are always going to or coming home from work on your day off. The "LA" platoon system also works for three shifts where you work 24 hours days on the first, third and fifth days of a nine day cycle. But you still can't beat 24/72. Ever.

This is the exact reason I loathe the 24/48's - you're either coming home from work, or preparing to go to the work.  And if you're in a very noctural firehouse, there's a chance you'll lose much of your first day off to sleep.

I work the "LA" system as described above and really like it.  Four consecutive days off every five calendar days?  I'll take it.

My department also works a 21-day cycle in which you work 3 days the first week of the cycle, 2 days the second week of the cycle, and 1 day the third week of the cycle.  I gives you a three-day break in the middle of the cycle and a five-day break at the end of the cycle.

But, I have to agree with the SrFireOfficial, 24/72 is the best, hands down.

My department has a weird schedule as well been told Fairfax runs it but not sure. I work 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, and 96 off, so over 9 days we work the same as a 24/48. but those 4 days off are nice and even more if you catch a swap or comp day to get 6 days off in a row

Jason, that's what I work and LA works as well.  I really like it.

That's the LA Platoon system. Fairfax City and County, Arlington County and City of Alexandria and I believe MWAA all work it. Loudoun County has some 24/72 assignments.

Where did White Marsh get Engine 201? and are they still getting out of the truck business?

White Marsh E201 came from Ridge Road Fire Dist., Greece NY. It's a 2003 ALF Metropolitan.

Old E201, 1990 KME Firefox and Tower 209, 2004 KME 102' tower was sold to Kent, CT.

White Marsh VFC will not be replacing the tower.
