Actually, the Boston VFD was shut down several years ago and sort of merged into the Greenock VFD. Greenock initially took over primary coverage of the Boston section of the township when they were shut down. I'm not sure about all of the details, but it was more of a takeover than an actual merger and I know Greenock took possession of some of Boston's apparatus and handled the sale of it.
A couple years ago, most of the VFDs in Elizabeth Township started the process of merging into a single department - the Elizabeth Township Fire Department. Initially, all of the active VFDs in the township with the exception of Buena Vista VFD were to be part of the merger, but Blaine Hill VFD pulled out early in the process.
At this point, the merged department consists of Greenock VFD, Central VFD and Elizabeth Township Fire Department #1 (formerly Blythdale). I'm not sure if the paperwork end of the merger has been fully completed, but they began operating as a single department response wise shortly after starting the process.
Prior to taking part of the creation of the Elizabeth Township Fire Department, the Blythedale VFD and the Industry VFD merged and ultimately consolidated into a single station in the Blythedale section of the township. Several years later, the Blythedale VFD began a duel response with the Victory VFD for calls in the Victory section of the township at the request of the Township Commissioners due to Victory having problems responding to their calls. Ultimately, the Victory VFD was shut down. Somewhere along the way, they renamed themselves as the Elizabeth Township Fire Department #1.
