Unfortunately, the truck was prepared for its delivery trip at the time I photographed it (note wrapping on the pump panel, lights, etc. Sorry about that.

You are absolutely right. I am not sure how the base fire department is organized but I believe it is a regional service that has stations at the dockyards and an airbase. Perhaps, one of our members from the area can provide a more definitive answer.

CFB Halifax is home to Canada's "Atlantic Fleet" There are Fire Services located at the Dockyards, where the Warships and Subs are docked, also at the "Ammunitions Depot" in Bedford there is a station with 1 possibly 2 pumpers. There is also fire protection at 12 Wing Shearwater, which houses the local Sea King Helicopters and is the airbase for CFB Halifax. 12 Wing houses a couple structural pumpers, rescue, range trucks as well as ARFF units. The Dockyards have 2 pumpers, and the Bronto, possibly a Rescue.



As far as specific details go, I couldnt tell you. In almost 5 years I havent been able to gain access to the dockyards or 12 Wing. Where as the ammunition depot station you can see from the road. Most of the time, there are apparatus at the "fleet center" which repair the vehicles for CFB Halifax. I am going to make another strong effort this year to photograph these rigs.

Good Luck. Military Bases can be some of the hardest or oddly the easiest to photograph.

I think its hit or miss. I went to CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick and had all the rigs pulled out and posed, spent most of the afternoon with the guys and they even gave my 2 boys rides around the base in one of the trucks. Great group of guys there!



Now everytime I have been to the Dockyards in Halifax, Ive been shot down like a SCUD missile! Ive gotten "shots of opportunity" when the trucks have been out and about, but thats mostly 95% luck!

That Halifax truck is one of three that were purchased maybe 6 months ago. Not a clue where the other two are going.

there is a Fort Garry/Spartan Metro Star side-mount pumper nearly ready for CFB-Esquimalt.

This is the Fort Garry engine that is headed off to Esquimalt that Dave mentioned in the last post. I neglected to get specs for this rig as the driver was in a bit of a hurry, but he was kind enough to stop for a couple of minutes so I could photograph it.

I wanted to post a few more photos of apparatus that are no longer on the roster of Surrey B.C. These photos represent some of the aerial trucks that they once operated. Ladder 1 at one time was this 1973 Thibault International 100' MM

This 1983 Pierreville Spartan 100' ladder also had a 1050 pump and 300 gallon water tank.

This 1989 Thibault Freightliner FLA 1050/300/100' had the crew enclosure added some years after it was delivered, and was repainted red in another refurbish at a later date.

Pump 5 at one time ran this 1990 Thibault Freightliner FLA 1500/500/55'. This was one of the last trucks out of the Thibault plant before the reciever stepped in.

Until recently Surrey operated this 1992 Anderson built 135' Bronto with a 1250 pump and 300 gallon water tank.
